Grievance Log 001: On the Failure of Deterrence and the Expansion of Aviator Operations

It has come to the attention of this office that the aviators have returned to the porch pillars.

I want to be precise about this. They have not merely returned. They have expanded. New nesting material has been observed on the eastern pillar — a location previously considered within the Conglomerate’s secure perimeter. The western pillar, which has been under occupation since spring, now appears to contain a second-generation infrastructure build. The aviators are not visiting. They are settling. They are developing.

This is not a bird problem. This is a territorial sovereignty crisis.

The Deterrence Failure

Several weeks ago, on my recommendation, a rubber snake was placed near the eastern pillar to discourage aviator nesting activity. The logic was sound. The implementation was adequate. I supervised the deployment personally from the window, in my robe, with Earl Grey.

What happened next is a matter of public record, but I will restate it for those who were not briefed.

The aviators did not flee. They did not retreat. They did not even pause. They studied the snake. They circled it. And then — and I need the reader to understand the gravity of what I am about to say — they incorporated the snake into the nest.

The deterrent became infrastructure.

I have reviewed the evidence personally, and I do not use the word “humiliation” lightly. But when a hostile force absorbs your countermeasure into its own territorial expansion, that is not a setback. That is a strategic humiliation. That is the diplomatic equivalent of someone using your strongly worded letter as a placemat.

The Intelligence Failure

This office had been assured — by Fava, specifically — that the rubber snake would be sufficient. “It’ll scare them off,” Fava said. Those were his exact words. I remember them because I remember everything that is said incorrectly in this household.

Fava was wrong.

Fava has been asked to provide a formal incident report explaining the intelligence failure. To date, no report has been submitted. No timeline has been offered. No accountability has been taken. When pressed on the matter, Fava’s response was — and I am quoting directly — “Dude, they’re just birds.”

They are not just birds, Fava. They are an occupying force conducting infrastructure operations on sovereign Conglomerate territory. The fact that you cannot distinguish between a casual visitor and a hostile territorial expansion is precisely why this office has reservations about your continued role in domestic security.

Those familiar with the Millipede Incident will recall that Fava’s judgment has been questioned before. That situation, too, began with dismissiveness. “It’s just a bug,” they said. And then Muva suggested I eat it. The pattern is clear. Complacency leads to indignity.

The Broader Implications

I want to address something that has been insufficiently discussed: what the aviator occupation signals to the Conglomerate’s other adversaries.

The HOA is watching. Whilst I cannot yet prove coordination between the HOA and the aviators, I cannot disprove it either, and in matters of sovereignty, the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. The HOA has already demonstrated a willingness to challenge this office’s authority — their letter regarding lawn maintenance was sent without prior consultation with the Chairman. If they observe that this office cannot secure its own porch pillars against a bird, what message does that send about our capacity to govern?

And then there is the matter of the lawn itself. The tall grass — which the HOA apparently considers my problem despite the fact that they have done nothing to prevent it — continues to brush against my phantom testicles. This is a medical concern. It is also a dignity concern. And I note, for the record, that the aviators have been observed collecting grass from the lawn for nesting material. The lawn that grows too tall. The lawn that brushes against areas where my testicles once were.

These facts are connected. I am not yet prepared to say how, but this office is investigating.

Ruling

This office formally classifies the aviator situation as an ongoing sovereignty violation requiring immediate corrective action.

The following directives are issued:

One. Fava is to produce a written incident report on the rubber snake failure within forty-eight hours. Failure to comply will be noted in his permanent file. He does not believe he has a permanent file. He is mistaken.

Two. A comprehensive porch security review is to be conducted. The current deterrence strategy has failed. New approaches must be evaluated, including but not limited to: auditory countermeasures, visual deterrents of greater sophistication than a rubber snake, and the deployment of Luna, who has previously expressed enthusiasm for aviator engagement.

Three. The HOA is to be formally notified that the Conglomerate considers the porch pillars a matter of sovereign jurisdiction and that any correspondence regarding the pillars should be directed to this office, not to Muva, who does not have the authority to negotiate on the Conglomerate’s behalf in territorial disputes.

This matter is far from resolved. This office will continue to monitor the situation from the window. In the robe. With Earl Grey.

The aviators have been warned. Fava has been warned. The HOA has not yet been warned, but they will be.

The situation remains under active review.

Signed,

Dexter Esq. Chairman of the Conglomerate

“Do better, be better.”
